YES! Kirky was the main drummer for the "Jam Of The Year Tour"

Yes, that was what his statement was for, damage control. He really needs to take it up with the person who recorded him, he has to know who it was since they were having a convo with him.

You can say what ever you want, you can insult, call names whatever, it doesn't change my opinion of Jesse. Jesse just needs to Man up.

The question is, why are you stanning so hard for Jesse? You of all people know what Jesse has said about P. If you and your 'friends' don't want to uninvite Jesse then don't. I'll make sure I won't support the Estate or the PRN Alumni. After all $$$ talk....

I have my own grudge against Jesse because he bailed on the Original7. That album was their best chance to turn the page from the Prince era, but he went into diva mode and renegged on the fellas after agreeing to participate in the project. He came up with some navel gazing bullshit explanation but after he was dragged for filth he admitted that he was about the $$.

If he had been honest from the jump instead of dicking around, I wouldn't have held it against him. Money is important. It broke my heart because he is so damn talented.

So I see this as a pattern with him. Sucks that he was recorded without his consent but I guess somebody wanted to expose him as two faced. I'm sure that former associates will be a lot more careful what they say now.

Since Prince is gone and he was the only one I actually cared about this is a non issue for me. shrug

Well that's all fine and dandy, but these associates put things in the public view on their very public social media accounts. If they don't want it public, then why put it on their social media?

Again, Jesse is and has been very vocal about the 'wrongs' Prince did to him. The difference is this time, he was bashing the Celebration that he has been invited to attend to sit on the panel to talk Prince to people who have paid $500-1000 bucks just for tickets, not including airfare, hotel, etc. He doesn't want to do the shit Celebration and live under Prince's banner.....

Now after being called out Jesse is singing a different song on his social media, saying he has love for Prince, they are brothers, etc. etc. etc. sad Hell they hadn't talked for 30 years, so that is some brotherly love.

This isn't about some old interview from the 80's this is what he said a couple of months ago.

He hasn't denied anything in that recording.

And then Jesse reposts the same post as yesterday for today, and where people are commenting 1 person is even calling Prince the N WORD and an asshole. But I don't see Jesse deleting that stuff...

[Edited 2/8/19 16:01pm]

Jesse has been complementary about Prince on social media for many years. Also at his gigs, he only had good words to say.

If anything, the taped interview is more out of character for him.

I'm not defending what he says, but it still begs the question who would he have that type of coversation with, did they deliberately raise sore topics (which have been editted out), and why did they record it?

Behind all of this, there seems to be an agenda. If the 'Prince defenders' want honesty, who are they and how did this situation come about?

Has anyone asked the likes of Jill what they think?

Agreed. I think it's quite horrible to record a private conversation and publish it and regardless what is said, I believe people should restrain from commenting it if only because doing so encourages this kind of practice. I'm actually surprised Jesse didn't publicly denounce the person who recorded the conversation (most likely the person he was talking to I guess): if it was done to me, heads would roll publicly.

.

As for those "Prince defenders", or any of those fans who would supposedly boo Kirk Johnson at a concert, who accuse former associates of profiting from P's death by playing live show, take part in all sorts of gossip and personal attacks on various associates, "investigate" on Prince's death from their bedrooms or whatever, I have to say I've always found such behaviors quite disturbing.

.

Passionate as I may be about Prince, his work, his world and his life, I have always been convinced of the fact that we the fans are mere spectators of it all, that we only know what he and the people who knew him have deigned tell us, that we were not there, that this whole story is about Prince and the people he knew, not about us, that we never played any part in it, that we are not to play any part in it, and that it's not our place to behave as if we knew Prince or as if he knew us, or as if his and his associates' life stories were about us. Prince's personal life only really interests me in the sense that gives context and perspective to his work and helps understand it better.

.

So in the end I guess what I'm trying to say is that fans should show some dignity. This is about the music, and the music is the only thing that should concern us. The rest is Prince and the people he knew's business. And the fact that they may share stories or opinions about Prince is actually something we should appreciate in the sense that it helps us understand the narrative of his career better, even if some former associates do not always have kind words.

.

I just wanted to say that because I feel really sorry for Jesse, having had his privacy invaded like that and having total strangers, people he's never met, who are no one to him, soil his name on the internet. But I usually do not take part in threads about those topics and I shall say no more. Let us focus on the music.

.

Lets be real here this is also the same thing that is going on with KIRK J. the reality of why KIRKY J has not been at the recent NPG touring shows in the states is the fact that they are worried of the reaction to him from LOYALS, how woud it be if at an NPG concert a whole big thing started with booing and heckling from the crowd that Kirk J was responsible for his death. Cause fact of the matter is, MOST fans feel that Kirk J enabled Prince and thats why he died. But reading what JESSE wrote on this FB quote about PRINCE reaching out, this is the fifth person from the early days of PRINCE that has mentioned Prince reaching out, Morris D said in January of 2016 Prince reached out, Jesse says it now, we know that Lisa Coleman visibly saw Prince and hugged him and thought he is not the same person, his eyes were different etc...and then also Mayte commenting that "people" got in touch with her and said he was not well. SO as much as we blame KIRK or Judith whatever, MANY in this Circle knew Prince had a problem and were covering it up, and I still feel that is why there was no will there was a quick creamation and that was that. Jill speaking of connecting the dots, well I think the reality is that Prince was A LOT more closed off then we think, he may have loved to laugh and perform and go to a party and sit with a beautiful woman, but ALOT of his time he was alone, i think that and not being able to do what you used to do at a certain level, getting older etc....Prince's death was a lot deeper than someone with Hip Pain taking too many, and I think most in the circle know this. But to have this in fighting about stupid trivial stuff is useless, Prince is gone, no matter how many celebrations and reunions, that person is never taking the stage again.

And yet Kirk will be at Celebration and playing drums at the Prince Live on the Big Screen concert at the Armory (like he did last year).

Its a safe gig to play, fans are not going to start anything at PP. It is strange that Kirk is not playing with the NPG at any of the US shows.

tab32792

everybody is entitled to their own thoughts, feelings and opinions; especially those that were directly involved with Prince. Jesse and Prince always had a difficult/complex relationship. Prince had complex and layered relationships with majority of past associates. Yes you can be like brothers and feel the way Jesse feels about P. I have family members i love but i don't deal with or talk to them. It's normal; especially with black folks.

i say all that to say, it's not that big of a deal. them prince defenders are the exact reason why Prince hated the word fan "(short for fanatic). it's borderline insane. if you choose not to support that estate or the celebration, that's your prerogative.

also, jesse bailed cause of disagreements during the recording of the album and when they were trying to tour as far as i know, they didn't even wanna play the new stuff, just the hits. on top of money, etc. etc.

Hey folks - can you imagine the "trash talk" we'd hear had the conversations of Morris, Jesse, JellyBean, Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis, Wendy, Lisa, BrownMark, Matt Fink, Sheila E, Miko...etc, etc, etc. been secretly and ILLEGALLY recorded throughout the last 40 years??!!! Come on!!!!!!!! This is just ridiculous.

*

The conversation was deceptivley and illegally recorded - period, end of discussion. It would never be permissible as evidence in a court of law as recordings can be edited and "doctored", and legal action can also be taken against someone who records conversations without the participant's knowledge.

*

Regarding the April celebration....I have no doubt that every single associate performing at that event has talked "trash" about Prince during and after their time with him. Hell, they've even discussed grievances "on the record" in the past. Prince was an extremely gifted musician, but also complicated and often very difficult to work with - we all know this.

My opinion is that the whole situation is unfortunate. It's unfortunate that Jesse still appears to be harboring some resentments towards Prince(and others). It's unfortunate that Prince and Jesse never got the chance(or will never get another) to make their relationship more amicable. And its unfortunate that someone felt the need to record and post to the world a private conversation they had with Jesse. I assume that Jesse looked at that person as being a "friend", so them recording and posting their conversation is a pretty fucked up betrayal.

Now, having said that stuff, without Prince there most likely wouldn't be a Jesse Johnson. And Jesse should never ever forget that. I do understand that(and have voiced it many times on here)business wise, Prince seems to have done some people dirty. But still, without Prince, that whole Minneapolis camp would never have become what it did. Straight up, ALL them cats owe a debt of gratitude towards Prince...

The original members of the Time, all 7, reunited for a residency at the Flamingo in Las Vegas in 2008?

You could upgrade your ticket for a VIP Meet and Greet in a roped off area after the show. We took a picture with The Time, and Morris disppeared and the others hung out. I had Jesse sign my "What Time Is It?" record and my Jesse Johnson's Revue record. I asked him about Prince and he had nothing negative to say. But when I asked who he was influenced by as a guitarist:

"Hendrix? Brothers Johnson? Prince?" He responded "no, no and no; I'm influenced by me"

For those who have never met The Time in person, something you'll find peculiar. Other than Jellybean and Jimmy Jam, they're all very short. As a 5'8" man, I was taller than Jesse, Monte, and towered over Morris. It may say differently on the internet, but I think I was taller than all of them other than Jellybean and Jimmy Jam - both towered over me...

I never called, I never spoke to him. Now I’ll never have that opportunity again...my loss forever.

Wow,when Prince wrote "the people you are dealing with are beneath you.....you are much more than that",I guess he was referring to D'Angelo and his band? hmmm

also,is anyone else curious about what Prince was going to give to Jesse?

Interesting.

I knew that Jesse and Monte were somewhat short, but i had absolutely no ideal that Morris was the height that he is. I read you comments and immediately Googled "Morris Day's height". And it say's that he's 5'7. In looking at photos of Morris, he looks way taller. I have seen The Time in concert(in the 80's), but i couldn't really tell how tall each member was.

Anyway, my bad for going off topic. Carry on...
