Prince and adoption

Considering how socially aware Prince was, it's surprising that he never adopted a child. Perhaps he was too traditional and wanted a nuclear family. Thoughts?

He wanted to produce his own. No surprise there.
In the end, he decided his music was his children.

Welcome to "the org", laytonian… come bathe with me.

I suspect that Prince was traditional and self-aware enough to realize that his lifestyle was not conducive to single parenthood.

Mayte references this in her book. He was not open to it because of his religious beliefs

And.....sometimes you have a hurt so deep that it takes a long time to get over it. I don't think he ever got ready for that. And then, maybe if he ever was, he was no longer in a marriage then. Since I am an adoptive parent, I wish it could have happened for him as well.

Well that's insane. I read it and I don't recall that but not saying it wasn't in there.

What could be more god-like and righteous than adoption? How much do you have to twist your head to reach a conclusion that "yep, giving a parentless child a home and caring for them is wrong?"

I don't recall that either from the book and i highly doubt JWs have something against adoption. I think the spin brigade is in full force.

In the book she said she tried to talk to him about adoption and he stuck to the company line about God’s will and the wisdom of nature.

I've also never heard a religous objection to the concept of adoption but I don't waste too much time with religion in general so maybe that's a thing and I just missed it. I always assumed quite the opposite, thought it was encouraged and that many churches build orphanages and things like that. If it, in fact, "a thing" than it's fucking stupid.

I sense he may have seen adoption as his failure to reproduce; he was image-conscious and this may have been a blow to him.

I highly doubt the JWs refuse any medical treatment the only thing i have ever heard about them refusing is blood transfusions, that's it. I think people confuse them with Christian Scientists, that's a whole other different lot. Now if individuals like Prince want to take it further than that's a personal choice and belief. There are ton of people who don't trust the medical establishment for a variety of reasons. Personally that's the part of the book that makes me so sad. Maybe I'll go back through my copy because I still don't remember a part of her saying he refused adopting.

I think Prince's pride was quite famous, so if I had to venture a guess then he would see adoption as a failure. At that point in his life, that prospect is both alarming and just too much to bear. He could've gone on to adopt any time, but it seems that he really felt his failed pregnancies were God's will that he not become a father.

Essentially what you get from Mayte's book mostly is that after the loss of their son, Prince went through an extreme journey that even the fans could see he would never really return from the same way before.
